About the role

The City of Nouméa is seeking a senior leader to head its Municipal Police. Reporting directly to the Secretary General for Security, the Director will shape the city’s safety strategy and oversee a team of 222 agents across operational and administrative units.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the municipal police’s prevention and security strategy.
• Lead and coordinate the operational pole (five units) and the administrative‑financial service.
• Advise elected officials and the general secretariat on safety matters.
• Organise the city’s security policy and crime‑prevention initiatives.
• Command and coordinate police interventions throughout the municipality.
• Manage the department’s budget, ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, and oversee administrative processes.
• Develop and maintain institutional partnerships.

Required profile

• Strong, proven leadership and managerial abilities.
• Excellent relational skills and capacity to work with elected officials.
• Deep understanding of territorial governance and security regulations.
• Rigorous, reactive, available, with strong synthesis and adaptability.
• Public servant (Category A) or contract holder with a Level 6 (Bac+3) degree or higher.
• Significant experience in a senior police or security management role.
