About the role
The Deputy Director (Marine Ecosystems Programme) will provide strategic direction, leadership, management and technical oversight for the Marine Ecology and Ecosystems Programme within the Pacific Community’s Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems Division.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Marine Ecology and Ecosystems Programme, ensuring alignment with SPC FAME Business Plan and Strategic Plan.
- Oversee three Section Heads covering climate science impacts on fisheries, ecosystem ecology and ecosystem‑based management.
- Develop, implement and monitor annual work plans, budgets and reporting in accordance with SPC policies.
- Coordinate with SPC FAME team leaders, managers, members and partners for strategic planning and project design.
- Manage SPC FAME’s collections and research facilities essential for the GCF‑RTP.
- Design and establish a new work programme to meet emerging member needs for sustainable fisheries and biodiversity management under climate change.
- Provide high‑quality, independent scientific information and advice on marine ecosystems to SPC members and regional agencies.
Required profile
- Senior professional with extensive experience in marine ecology, climate science and ecosystem‑based management.
- Proven leadership and management experience in international or regional development organisations.
- Strong understanding of fisheries science, climate impacts on oceanic and coastal fisheries, and sustainable biodiversity management.
